how to update from 2005 Express to 2008 Express

Asked By Michael Peters

I have SQLServer Express 2005 on my machine, with 3 or 4 databases that need
to be ported, and I want to migrate to SQLServer Express 2008. What would be
the best way to do this?

I would think: 1) make backups of the databases, 2) deinstall SQLServer
2005, 3) install SQLServer 2008, 4) restore the databases ... can the
backups be restored without problems?

-Michael

The SQL Server 2008 Express setup program will offer you the option to
upgrade an existing instance of SQL Server2005.
(Of course backups are always good.)
